I fully expect that our readers will get a little hot under the collar about this one.
In our first post, we incurred the ire of the Windows Loyal, our last post made the Palmaniacs get their torches and pitchforks, and this time, we’re going to anger quite possibly everyone! We’ll call the iPhone platform a Smartphone OS, which offends many. For the iPhone loyal–and I don’t want to spoil the surprise ending, but–we’re going to say that Android is a viable alternative to the iPhone. Shocking, I know, but this <del datetime="2010-03-25T19:54:22+00:00"></del>is an Android blog.

We’re going to structure this post a little different, too. We’ll cover iPhone OS 3.1.3, but there are essentially two classes of devices running it: iPhone 3GS’s and iPod Touch 3rd Gen’s, and other outdated hardware. Apple’s hardware is at least as important as the OS, because their older hardware provides a distinctly different experience from new hardware. Then there’s a third variable, the ever-present “what’s next” factor with Apple. By taking a look at each situation, we’ll try to cover iPhone vs. Android buying decisions pretty comprehensively. Also, for the sake of space, I won’t cover individual apps on either platform in detail, but will focus on the core OS. Let’s start with an overview of iPhone OS 3.

Choosing a smartphone part 2

Choosing a Smartphone, Part 2: Android vs. Palm WebOS – Updated
In our second in a series of articles helping you choose a smartphone OS, we’re going to take a look at Android versus Palm’s WebOS, which by every metric is soundly bringing up the rear in the smartphone OS race. At this blog, we prefer Android, and the past weeks’ news has only made us more proud of our favorite OS. However, there has been a lot of talk about Windows Phone 7, and Palm is trying to expand by bringing its devices to Verizon. Of course, there’s the ever-present iPhone OS, and its next update is looming. Blackberry . . . also still makes phones. In this series of articles, we’ll take an honest look at how Android stacks up to the competition. I think you’ll find that whatever your needs, there’s a Droid for that!
To get started, let’s talk about Microsoft’s big play in the mobile space: Windows Phone 7 Series.

my latest gadget....Sprint's HTC Hero

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; One analyst is saying no.

Analyst Shaw Wu of Kaufman Bros thinks that it is more likely that the iPhone will be carried by T-Mobile or Sprint in 2010 than by Verizon, something that would disappoint many current and potential iPhone users. Shaw says one major stumbling block is that both Apple and Verizon have grown their businesses through close control of their customers and that this shared trait may keep the two apart. After all, both parties cannot really control a shared customer. Read more...

27-inch Quad Core iMacs well worth the wait...

27-inch Core i5 iMac (with Core i7 option)

Top-of-the-line iMac takes the crown as fastest stock Mac model ever

by James Galbraith, Macworld.com

When Apple announced new iMacs last month, it included a major step forward amid the subtle-but-welcome refinements in most of the models: the first ever iMac to offer a quad-core processor. The new high-end 27-inch iMacs are the first to use Intel’s Core i5 and Core i7 quad-core processors, and they were not available at the time of the announcement. But finally, the wait is over, and the Core i5 and Core i7 27-inch iMacs have arrived—and let me tell you, it was worth the wait. <a decided to try out an iPhone 3GS on AT&T. I know, I know...everyone has warned me about AT&T service but I took the plunge anyway. I just couldn't get anything done with the current crop of smartphones.

As for AT&T service, it's been only 3 weeks but I haven't had a drop call, as for service it's been good, no complaints. I do miss MMS something Verizon has had for a long time but the experience with the iPhone as compared to all others is a huge leap forward. I can't find the right words but it's like I am so much more productive, I can actually use the browser and have a pleasant experience and I can open documents and actually READ THEM!

I will be headed out to the Outerbanks of North Carolina...we'll see how this baby performs on this 11 hour journey with GPS navigation with AT&T and Navigon and phone calls thruout the journey, not to mention some browsing on the beach!!!

LG env Touch sync to PC

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 180px; height: 38px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_GVuXm7y8PPE/SkeKFrPcttI/AAAAAAAAB00/4lHnuUf8WB4/s400/download-btn.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5352398512264623826" />

LG Outlook Sync Program Installation

LG Outlook Sync is a utility to synchronize your MS Outlook data with your LG devices. Put a data block on the line and upgraded the OS to WM 6.1, installed AIM for Windows Mobile, followed by the leaked WM 6.5 Facebook app PPCGeeks Facebook, Iconsoft PhonEX and Spb Mobile Shell.

To my surprise, Windows Mobile has come along way, everything is working together. It seems that Microsoft finally has seen the light and they seem on the right track with WM 6.5 and the soon to be released WM 7.

Now about Verizon...the WM phones to get are the Samsung Omnia, HTC Touch Diamond or the HTC Touch Pro but you will have to pay Verizon another $30 monthly for the priviledge of using data, even thou, the phones have built-in WIFI...but that is Verizon...one day they too, will see the light, just like Microsoft.

ZyXEL P2910 Docsis 3.0 Multimedia Terminal

ZyXEL Communications Corp. has entered the Docsis 3.0 fray with an embedded multimedia terminal adapter (E-MTA) that combines a baseline wideband modem with VoIP support and home networking features.

The P2910, just certified by CableLabs , is based on a Texas Instruments Inc. type='text'>Ahh....HD-DVD...got it right the first time...but content always wins...

Many have asked why a geek like me would go with HD-DVD instead of Blu-ray. <br Did they need new pcs? Nope! I knew I had a project on my hands. It was time to upgrade the hardware for vista. I successfully upgraded an HP pavilion a1228x and a pavilion a1118x to Windows Vista Enterprise. Ok...so I thought enterprise sounded cool! Heck...I even loaded up the new windows office student 2007 edition and yes itunes...music...photos...videos... kids these days...gosh do they accumulate alot of data! --their pc's are up and running....did I say... and faster!!!

These are the steps I took:

1- Increase memory on motherboard from 512mb to 2gb (low density memory)
2- ran the windows vista upgrade advisor
3- uninstalled all programs that the upgrade advisor deemed "not compatible" with the red X
4- the upgrade advisor will indicate that the radeon x200 is okay for vista (it will run slow but leave it be for now)
5- make sure the computer is directly connected to a BROADBAND INTERNET CONNECTION
6- Vista will stay connected to the internet thruout the installation downloading drivers for the a1228x before the full installation
7- Once Vista boots up (completed install) do a windows update
8- after windows update, reboot computer
9- disabled the internal radeon x200 graphics chip (disable in bios setup at boot time)
10- turn computer off
11- install a radeon x700 Super 512MB DDR2 graphics Card ($59 on ebay)
12- reboot computer
13- go to device manager for the new graphics found hardware and let windows update the device driver for the x700
14- Go to the ATI site and download the catalyst software for the x700 and new drivers
15- reboot and install your applications, restore the data, etc..
16- reboot one last time and you're good to go

D-Link MediaLounge DSM-520 Merry Christmas!

Surprise, surprise, surprise --- what do I find under my christmas tree none other than a media player that actually connects to my network and works!
