Every Nuclear Explosion on Earth since 1945...

Everyone's got a notion of how the last century went, in terms of nuclear explosions. There was Hiroshima, then Nagasaki. There were some nuclear tests out in the desert, and the ocean. But would you believe there've been over 2000? Read more...

Microsoft reminds 2000 and XP SP2 users: The end is near...

Microsoft reminds 2000 and XP SP2 users: The end is nigh

Microsoft has a message for people still running XP: if you haven’t got service pack 3 by next July, you’re on your own.

The firm is reminding users that support for both XP Service Pack 2 and Windows 2000 ends on 13 July 2010. While the systems will, of course, continue to work, anyone who needs any assistance dealing with problems with them will have to hope Google provides the answer. That’s not really much of an issue for home users, but should be taken as a sign for businesses that it’s time to sort things out. Read more...

Complicated Apple-Verizon deal unlikely

Given the dissatisfaction of iPhone users with AT&T, and the fact that Verizon has a much better network, it has been hoped that Apple would strike a deal with Verizon. One analyst is saying no.

Analyst Shaw Wu of Kaufman Bros thinks that it is more likely that the iPhone will be carried by T-Mobile or Sprint in 2010 than by Verizon, something that would disappoint many current and potential iPhone users. Shaw says one major stumbling block is that both Apple and Verizon have grown their businesses through close control of their customers and that this shared trait may keep the two apart. After all, both parties cannot really control a shared customer. Read more...

27-inch Quad Core iMacs well worth the wait...

27-inch Core i5 iMac (with Core i7 option)

Top-of-the-line iMac takes the crown as fastest stock Mac model ever

When Apple announced new iMacs last month, it included a major step forward amid the subtle-but-welcome refinements in most of the models: the first ever iMac to offer a quad-core processor. The new high-end 27-inch iMacs are the first to use Intel’s Core i5 and Core i7 quad-core processors, and they were not available at the time of the announcement. But finally, the wait is over, and the Core i5 and Core i7 27-inch iMacs have arrived—and let me tell you, it was worth the wait. more...

I finally gave in....to the iPhone

After going thru a ton of different phones from Verizon, such as Blackberries and Windows Mobile, I finally decided to try out an iPhone 3GS on AT&T. I know, I know...everyone has warned me about AT&T service but I took the plunge anyway. I just couldn't get anything done with the current crop of smartphones.

As for AT&T service, it's been only 3 weeks but I haven't had a drop call, as for service it's been good, no complaints. I do miss MMS something Verizon has had for a long time but the experience with the iPhone as compared to all others is a huge leap forward. I can't find the right words but it's like I am so much more productive, I can actually use the browser and have a pleasant experience and I can open documents and actually READ THEM!

I will be headed out to the Outerbanks of North Carolina...we'll see how this baby performs on this 11 hour journey with GPS navigation with AT&T and Navigon and phone calls thruout the journey, not to mention some browsing on the beach!!!

Back to Windows Mobile

Okay, after a couple of months with the blackberry storm I've decided to return to the Windows Mobile world.

I know some may ask why?

The answer is quite simple...just like I grew tired of the Palm UI, I have grown tired of the storm's UI or lack of one.

I dusted off a samsung i760, turned on wifi and discontinued feeding Verizon $30 data plan. Put a data block on the line and upgraded the OS to WM 6.1, installed AIM for Windows Mobile, followed by the leaked WM 6.5 Facebook app PPCGeeks Facebook, Iconsoft PhonEX and Spb Mobile Shell.

To my surprise, Windows Mobile has come along way, everything is working together. It seems that Microsoft finally has seen the light and they seem on the right track with WM 6.5 and the soon to be released WM 7.

Now about Verizon...the WM phones to get are the Samsung Omnia, HTC Touch Diamond or the HTC Touch Pro but you will have to pay Verizon another $30 monthly for the priviledge of using data, even thou, the phones have built-in WIFI...but that is Verizon...one day they too, will see the light, just like Microsoft.
